A Wedding Day at the Evergreen Museum & Library, Baltimore

As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to shoot at many incredible venues—but few places capture my heart like the Evergreen Museum & Library in Baltimore. Every time I walk its grounds, camera in hand, I’m reminded why it’s one of my favorite places to document love stories. The combination of timeless architecture, lush gardens, and historical significance makes it a dream backdrop for storytelling. Julia and Devin’s spring wedding was an absolute dream to capture.

Setting the Scene

From the moment I pull into the long tree-lined drive leading to the museum, I know I’m in for something special. The 19th-century mansion rises like something out of a European fairytale—classic stonework, ivy-covered walls, and grand staircases all whispering history. But what truly makes Evergreen magical is how it balances grandeur with intimacy. It doesn’t just look beautiful—it feels like it was built for love stories.

Opting for a Church Ceremony

Julia and Devin chose a meaningful location for their wedding ceremony, Sacred Heart Parish, the church Julia’s family has attended for decades in Glydon, Maryland. This historic church was constructed in 1873, it is rich in history and charm. Julia had a first-look with dad before seeing Devin prior to their ceremony. These two have been together for 9 years, but have been busy finishing medical school before tying the knot.

Bridal Party at Evergreen Museum

As a photographer, I love venues that work with you, not against you—and Evergreen’s design offers endless natural vignettes for portraits. No corner ever looks quite the same depending on the season, which means every wedding feels distinct. Julia and Devin wanted their bridal party photos to take place at Evergreen Museum, and the results are absolutely beautiful!

Receptions in the Carriage House

If you’ve ever photographed a reception in the Carriage House, you know exactly what I mean when I say character. Exposed brick, warm wood beams, and just enough edge to contrast all that vintage romance—it’s the perfect setting for dinner, dancing, and truly unforgettable party shots.

One of my favorite receptions here featured twinkle lights strung across the ceiling and floral chandeliers hanging from antique fixtures. The lighting, ambiance, and acoustics all come together in a way that lets you be both artistic and documentary as a photographer.

🕯️ Golden Hour & Evening Portraits

Here’s my secret: Evergreen is just magical at golden hour. I always encourage my couples to take a few minutes for golden hour portraits, it is a time to step away from the hustle and bustle of the reception and focus on your spouse. Julia and Devin told me they were extremely happy they decided to step away for a few moments and explore the gardens.

Favorite Wedding Moments at Evergreen

Some weddings just stay with you. A few highlights I’ll never forget:

  • Bridal party photos using paper parasols, they added even more charm
  • No rain, even though the forecast was calling for thunderstorms (an answered prayer, for sure!)
  • Seeing a herd of deer traipsing around the lower lawn
  • Speeches from the maid-of-honor and best man, these two put a lot of thought and sentiment into their
