Katelyn reached out to me for an engagement session while she and her fiance, Cody, were visiting Annapolis during summer 2022. The two are originally from Nashville, but travel periodically for Cody’s work in the Navy (he’s a graduate from the Naval Academy!). Katelyn wanted the iconic Annapolitan engagement session: including the waterfront along Annapolis City Docks and up to the Maryland State House.
The pair have been together for four years, they met in Nashville and dated while Cody completed his education and training at the Naval Academy. Katelyn graduated from college during this time, as well, and is a social worker. Later this summer, the two are relocating to California, so Cody can train to become a helicopter pilot. And this fall, the two return to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for their nuptials!
The connection between these two sweethearts was palpable! Katelyn also chose beautiful outfits for each of them; they coordinated, but didn’t “match.” And even though it was humid and hot, these two did a great job in front of the camera! After capturing a few moments at the docks, we headed up charming Pinkney Street. With its adorable shiplap townhomes and colorful flags in the background, these two looked absolutely stunning.
Katelyn also brought along a small bouquet to use during the session, and later a veil; both props were great choices.
Our next stop on the way to Maryland State House was the Fleet Street wisteria mural painted by Mary Bowen in 2012. The muted pastel colors complimented Katelyn and Cody’s outfits beautifully! Unfortunately, the mural has some damage, but I was able to frame them without showing it.
Our last stop was Maryland State House, which was covered in scaffolding! It’s undergoing renovation right now to repair its facade and dome. We still wanted to use this historic location for a few images, and Katelyn loved the columns. This image below is one of my favorites! Pro tip: practice your dip during your engagement session!
As an Annapolis wedding photographer, I love meeting new people and finding new ways to incorporate our beloved city into beautiful photographs.
